On May 8th, we will be holding a VE Day afternoon at the bakery to help raise money to support soldiers' families in connection with SSAFA. Our staff will be dressing up in World War II fancy dress and we will be holding a cake sale to raise funds for the charity, including traditional Victoria sandwiches and scones. Our staff will also be attempting some traditional wartime cake recipes. Our Maggie Ramage loaf, made from a traditional 1940's recipe, will be on offer on the day with samples to try and all service men and women will get 20% discount on the day. We had a lovely visit from Karen Thomas at SSAFA (Wiltshire) this morning who kindly dropped off some posters, leaflets and collection boxes to help us decorate the shop for the occasion.
Support for Soldiers and their Families is the UK's oldest national military charity and are committed to understanding the support that the Armed Forces and their families have needed for the past 130 years. SSAFA's support covers the regular and reserve forces of the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Airforce providing them with lifelong support for their years of service. If you would like to read more about SSAFA's work or personal stories from service men and women they have helped please visit their website.
If you would like to visit the bakery to try some of our cakes, donate to SSAFA and show your support for our service men and women, the event will be held from 12pm onwards at our site on the A46, junction 18 of the M4. We would love to see you. If you are not able to make it but would still like to donate you can visit SSAFA's Just Giving Page. For more information please contact us.
