We were delighted to win the Apprenticeship Award at the recent Made in the South West Awards 2013! We were also up against some stiff competition against some of the largest companies in the region.
The Judges commented, “Winning in this category shows what a small company can contribute to its’ regional community in terms of developing its’ own staff, supporting local and national initiatives to tackle youth unemployment, and raising awareness of the industry skills shortage”. The award recognised, ”the real commitment and determination of a small company in not only embracing an offer of apprenticeships, but in running regular workshops to provide unemployed young people with support in searching for a job, as well as post-workshop mentoring.”
Chris Smith, Director commented, “We are fortunate to have a fantastic team at the bakery who so warmly welcome visitors to the bakery and so willingly work with the young people who regularly ‘invade’ their workplace. The patience and empathy with which they engage with those who visit the business does them immense credit.”
We were also shortlisted for the Food Manufacturer Award and also the main award of Overall Manufacturer of the Year - which was deservedly won by Thatchers Cider.
